Bill of Materials

Overview

The Bill of Materials function allows the you to stock raw materials, component items and finished goods. This facilitates a finished good item to be selected on a sales order without listing the detail of its component items. The system uses a work order or "Build Assembly" process to back flush or record "after the production" of finished goods. Raw materials quantities are reduced, finished good quantities are increased, costs are "rolled up" into the finished good and the detail of inventory stocking layers automatically updated during this process.

Inventory Item Detail
In Inventory Control Item Maintenance the "detail" tab allows for the selection of an inventory item to be an assembled item or not. Selecting "yes" activates the Assembly screen.

Detailed Bill of Material
The Assembly screen allows for the line items of the bill of material for a finished good to be constructed. These line items can include a labor component at standard cost that will roll up into the finished good cost. Inventory items are displayed allowing the user to select the required quantity necessary to build the finished good. Quantities in stock are displayed to assure the necessary stock levels for production.
